Ode to a top

top: thrifted, Banana Republic
trousers: Limited
sweater: thrifted
shoes: DSW
necklace: market in Malawi
When I was changing out of these clothes after work I caught a glimpe in the mirror and thought that somehow my green sweater had stained the tops of the shoulders, becaused they seemed kind of dark.
Then I looked closer and realized that this shirt was so threadbare, you could see my skin through the tops of the shoulders. So I figured I finally needed to face the music and retire it. Sad day for my closet.
In college it was frequently borrowed by roommates because it is the traveling pants of shirts - it fit everyone perfectly. I wore it to several job interview and school presentations, and to work in my last four jobs.
Wow, I can’t believe i’m getting emotional about a shirt. At any rate, the top will live on - thanks to RIT dye and a necklace tutorial for jersey shirts. I’ll keep you posted, but here is my first attempt at the necklace that I made with a dry-clean only shirt I ruined.
